Why should you train my pet?
We have over 20 years of experience training dogs and have worked on every end of the spectrum. The owner, Kevin, has been all over the world training, procuring dogs, and gaining more valuable experience. He has a history in training police K9s, detection dogs, tracking, obedience, sport work, aggressive dogs, and many other problem behaviors. So, with Kevin’s experience combined with the hardworking and knowledgeable trainers at Kaliber Canine, we can provide you with the best training around!
What can we do for you?
It takes a lot of hours, patience, and experience to train dogs. That is why we are here to help you. We can assist with your current needs for your dog, but we will also give you the tools and support to maintain a well-trained dog. Many of our customers stay in touch with us and give updates and pictures of their dogs excelling in their training. Training dogs is a constant and ongoing process. We like to use the term “reprogramming” your pet since that is exactly what we do in the beginning. They learn what is acceptable and what is not rewarded.
Do you use Prong Collars?
Yes, for the right dogs. We prefer to use the right tools based on the individual needs of each dog. We prefer to use the right tools for the right dogs. The prong collar looks like a nasty sharp tool but it actually isn’t. It is designed as a "pressure displacement” tool, which applies pressure evenly around the neck instead of putting all the pressure on one area such as a flat collar or choke chain. It provides an uncomfortable sensation, similar to a mother picking up her puppy by the scruff. The dog quickly figures out that “If I do this, I get an uncomfortable sensation around my neck, but when I do this, nothing happens”.
Do you use E-Collars?
Yes, for the right dogs or for off leash training. Sadly, many people do not understand the proper ways to use an e-collar to realize their true benefits. Dog training tools evolve over time just like everything else in the world. It is just another great tool added to the shelf ready to be used by an educated trainer for the right dog. The best item we can compare an e-collar too is to a “tens unit” commonly found in doctors offices, rehab centers, or chiropractic offices. Tens units are used for pain relief and as a muscle relaxant. An e-collar does not do any actual physical damage to the dog regardless of level. (An e-collar assists the trainers in getting your pets attention in a time of need: such as running towards traffic or aggressively charging a dog across the street. We have had a lot of success using e-collars at low levels (tickle sensation) for a variety of pets.
Is there a guarantee on my dog’s training? What if I don't see results from training after we leave?
Sadly, we cannot guarantee that your dog will listen 100% of the time since there are too many factors out of our control, such as owner consistency, environmental factors and much more. Since we realize there is more to training a dog than reprogramming them we do offer some solutions. We currently provide free group classes for dogs that went through our Advance or Elite Board and Train Programs. This is to ensure training is kept up and address problems that can occur back at home. After we have trained your pet or sold you a trained pet we are still here to help if needed. Most of the problems that occur back at home can be addressed. We believe in an ongoing working relationship with all of our clients and their pets.
May I visit my dog during a board and train?
Unfortunately, no. As we reprogram your pet we cannot allow owners back in the picture until training is complete. This is due to 2 main reasons: 1) It can set us back a few steps in the training and in the rehabilitation process. 2) Training for all dogs would be interrupted with a constant flow of visitors.
Once your pet has completed training we invite you to come back and spend a session learning about everything your pet has learned and how you can work with them. We understand it is difficult being separated from your pets for multiple weeks. We provide pictures of your pets on our Facebook business page to help with the separation.
